Four Powers Meditation

audio coming soon. please check back.

  • Think of something negative that you’ve done, or else think of a negative result in your life that you are having trouble with.
  • Example: I got upset at my partner today.
  • First Power: The Power of Truth
  • Bring up your clearest understanding of emptiness and of how the world really works—how everything is simply a projection of your own mind. Everything is the ripening of something you’ve done to others in the past.
  • Now apply that to your present situation. Either reflect on the negative result that will occur because of your negative action, or figure out what negative action you must have done to cause your present negative result.
  • Example: because I got upset at him, I will now be forced to see people upset at me in the future.
  • Second Power: The Power of Regret
  • Take a moment to truly regret doing that negative thing, knowing it will only cause you pain.
  • Example: I really don’t like it when people get upset at me. That was a really dumb thing for me to do, planting that seed.
  • Third Power: The Power of Resolve
  • Decide that you are not going to do that thing again. If necessary, give yourself a certain time limit, something that you can actually do, then build up slowly to longer and longer time periods.
  • Example: I am not going to get upset at my partner for the rest of the day.
  • Fourth Power: The Power of Action
  • Now make an action plan—decide what antidote activity you will do to clean up this negative imprint. Try to relate it to what you are purifying.
  • Example: To make up for getting upset, I will cook his favorite dinner.
