Pain and the End of Pain
audio coming soon. please check back.
- Get into a comfortable position, and fix your body still. Let your eyes fall closed, and focus on your breath for a few moments, to get the mind settled.
- Now, go over the first kind of pain in your mind: obvious pain. Think about all the times you’ve experienced this kind of pain, both mental and physical.
- Ask yourself a child’s question: why must I feel these pains?
- Next, contemplate the second kind of pain: inevitable pain. Think of all the good things you have now in this life. Ask yourself—can I hold onto any of them? What will it feel like when these things are torn away from me?
- Now go even deeper, and ask yourself this question: will anything I ever get in this life really make me happy? Try to get in touch with our human tendency to be constantly dissatisfied with what we get.
- Then think about the third kind of pain: ever-present pain—that terrifying feeling of having no control, and no one to turn to for help.
- Do you know what pain will come to you next? Do you have any power to stop it when it comes? Let yourself feel a bit of that deep down fear below the surface.
- Now, imagine yourself without these three pains. Your body is no longer made of a substance that could be harmed. It is no longer flesh and blood, but pure light, adamantine and indestructible—a body that feels nothing but exquisite bliss. Stop and picture this for a moment—feel that you have this perfect immaculate body, the most beautiful thing you can imagine.
- Then imagine a mind free of every care or worry—a mind filled with peace, and love for every being. A mind that can reach out to the very ends of space, and know every existing thing in the universe. A mind that looks into all these things, and sees their true nature.
- Next, picture the power you have as this being, power to help all the people you love. You can emanate in any form at all, and go to them and teach them to become like you. See yourself now, sending out different forms, in all different directions of space.
- This is your future self—an Angel’s body, an Angel’s mind. It is your ultimate evolution, it is what you are destined to become.
- Stay here, still and quiet for a few minutes, and simply be the Angel.
- In closing, make a promise to yourself to get out of pain and reach the Angel’s state of bliss.
